Top 5 Tips for Surviving a Rainy Wedding Day!

Tips

So, you check the upcoming forecasts and see that the day you’ve been looking forward to all year has a chance of rain- Your wedding day! In many cultures, a rainy wedding day means good luck. As the saying goes, they say a wet knot is harder to untie than a dry one. However, if you’re trying to plan a picture-perfect wedding day and night, rain might be an obstacle to overcome. After playing thousands of weddings, both with rain forecasts and without, we have some tricks up our sleeves on how to handle this less-than-ideal situation.  If there is a forecast of rain on the horizon, here are BVTLive!’s top tips to survive your rainy wedding day!

1. Check your Wedding Contracts for a Rain Clause

The first piece of advice we have is to check your contracts with your Philadelphia wedding vendors. There should be rain clauses in each of your contracts. If not, inquire about what their policies are and think about this before signing the dotted line!

When it comes to live wedding musicians, we know better than anyone how tricky it is to keep everyone safe when it comes to rain. Music equipment such as string instruments can get damaged very easily, and electricity, which is required for all of our Philadelphia wedding bands, can be compromised. Check your contracts to see what they do in case of rain and that will give you a starting point on planning around mother nature.

2. Have a Rain Backup Plan with Your Wedding Venue!

If you’re planning on having an outdoor wedding, especially during a season that’s known to rain (looking at you, Spring!)  then you might want to think about what other options there are within the venue. Is there another part of the space you can utilize in case of rain? Should you have a backup plan with a tent?  It’s wise to keep your bases covered.

Your wedding planner or the venue coordinator should be able to readily tell you about the options in advance. In our professional opinion, having a plan in the place will always be the way to go. It’s never fun to get to the big day and realize that a drizzly day has rained on your plans and your options are limited for solutions. Strategize solutions now and think about how you accommodate a bit of weather for your future self!

3. Pack Umbrellas in Case of Wedding Day Rain!

This is a simple piece of advice but a good piece none the less. It’s never a bad idea to think about buying nice umbrellas in case of rain. When you think ahead, you can be more intentional with the umbrellas you’ll be using on the day!

#WeddingProTip: Many of our favorite Philadelphia wedding Venues provide attractive umbrellas for the bride and groom, as well as wedding party for your wedding pictures. Since you’ve spent so much money on your wedding photographer, you need an aesthetically appealing, and timeless piece to input into your photos! If you see rain on your forecast the week of your wedding reach out to your venue coordinator or planner to see if they have the appropriate gear!

4. Consider your Guests When Planning for your Rainy Wedding Day

If you expect rain in the forecast, let your guests know! The more they know the more they can come prepared. There are many ways to contact your guests, whether through your wedding platforms such as ZOLA, Wedding Wire, or the Knot! Knowing the potential weather ahead of time can change how transport is arranged or how your guests choose to dress for the evening. Although you and your partner are the star of the show, you want your guests to have just as much fun at your wedding reception! Some great ideas we’ve seen work for guests are extra umbrellas for them to use, flip flops for the ladies, or heel blockers if you’re in a grassy area.
